Christian Links & Resources God relies on us, his agents, to do his work in the world. We are asked to live out the life of Christ in the world, not just to refer back to it or describe it. God made you and gave you special gifts and abilities. We announce his message, work for justice, pray for mercy...and suffer with the sufferers.
The united strength of Christ's body can be a powerful force on behalf of the lonely, suffering and deprived. Choose to make your life an instrument of God's peace. That act transforms both giver and receiver: "What had seemed bitter to me was changed into sweetness of body and soul."
For the mass of us there is the absolute conviction that we aren't able to direct all our own steps. Our lives are littered with broken vows, half-finished schemes, unwise ventures and vast periods of bewilderment. God knows everything about us, and still loves us.
To handle suffering, the spirit must be fed so that it can break free beyond the constraints of the body. Christian faith does not always offer resources to the body. Yet God does promise to nourish the spirit that will one day rejoin a perfected body. Everything can be taken from man, but one thing --- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way...the last of human freedoms.
